Occupational Health Project Manager
London Probation Service
(Southwark Office)
London Probation, part of the National Probation Service, is a law enforcement agency that works with offenders to protect the public and reduce re-offending in London.
The Project Board for London Probation agreed to run Activate Your Workplace (AYW) as part of the ‘Model Borough Pathfinder Project’ (MBPP), which was already piloting various schemes introducing new ways of working across the South London offices.
Two Workplace Health Champions’ were involved in the set up of the pilot; a Case Administrator and a Project Officer from the MBPP. This partnership facilitated communication between staff and the project board, which enabled staff to feedback the types of interventions that were most pertinent to them.
Following the positive response from staff, activities planned include health screening such as blood pressure monitoring, Diabetes and Prostate Cancer checks and a TB awareness campaign.
The Occupational Health Project Manager, who has temporarily taken on the role of Workplace Health Champion, has been pleased with progress so far and is keen to ensure the role of Workplace Health Champions’ is firmly established within London Probation. A review of the most suitable positions within the organisation for individuals to act as Champion’s is currently being undertaken. Once this has been decided, London Probation intend to roll the programme out and establish a London–wide ‘Champion’s Forum’.
