Raj Bhachu
Pharmacy Manager
Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s, one of the UK’s leading food retailers, piloted Activate Your Workplace in the Winchmore Hill branch with over 600 employees, the majority of whom work shift patterns.

The Occupational Health department were fully behind it and wanted to take a much more proactive than reactive approach to improving staff health and wellbeing.

Raj Bhachu, the Pharmacy Manager, took on the role of the Workplace Health Champion. He is ideally placed to support and advise staff. Interventions trialled in 2008 have included health MOT’s, allergy testing, a week of classes including yoga and pilates, fruit smoothies, Nintendo Wii games and healthy canteen options.

The programme has been supported by the Health and Wellbeing Manager, Vicky Wright, who is keen to learn from the pilot at Winchmore Hill and role out the programme across the Sainsbury’s.

Sainsbury’s are committed to focusing on the wellbeing agenda and hope to build upon interventions being trialled at the Winchmore Hill store.
