Mike Crane
Development Manager
Uxbridge College

Since June 2007 Uxbridge College have piloted Activate Your Workplace across the college, engaging both staff and students in healthy living opportunities. The college already independently ran activities for students as part of the ‘Every Child Matters’ healthy college initiative and were keen to do something for the staff as well.

The AYW programme at Uxbridge College has made the college a more positive place to work. Mike Crane, the Workplace Health Champion for the college, believes this will have a knock on impact by developing the potential of existing staff as individuals, which essentially supports the students.

The college piloted a model where there was a central Workplace Health Champion who coordinated activities across the campus, with input from a network of other staff who were keen to be involved in the programme.

Many interventions have been running at Uxbridge very successfully. The Pedometer Challenge has had a high uptake and Mike has also had positive feedback from the staff.

AYW has helped put health on the College agenda and it is hoped it will remain there and help shape objectives in the future.
